Kingfishers - Year 1: Learning in Maths Term 2
This term in maths we will be looking at fractions, multiplication and division, measure, statistics and time. Keep checking back to this gallery each week to see what we have been learning about in Kingfisher class.

This week in maths we have been learning how to tell the time. We have worked really hard to learn o'clock and half past. We have also been practicing our days of the week.

Towards the end of the week we moved onto looking at measuring the weight of objects. We worked in groups to sort objects into heavy and light. We then had a go at using balancing scales to carry out an investigation. We had to compare the weight of different objects in the classroom. We then tried to see if we could balance the scales, which we found quite tricky!

This week we have been looking at multiplication. We have been using concrete objects to help us understand multiplication as well as drawing pictures to help with out understanding. We have been grouping objects to show multiplication.
One question we looked at was 'Harry had 5 friends. Each friend gave him 3 sweets. How many sweets did he have altogether?' Some of us drew 5 friends and gave each one 3 sweets. We then counted how many there were altogether. Some of us started to create an array to help count in 5s.
